Default Quartz and Gold

IS there any connection between quartz and gold ?
On my fiance's family land about an hour from Dahlonega GA. she's just found quartz in the stream running through the property.
Somebody said there's a connection, i cant see it as quartz is so common.
If not whats the best way to check to see if gold is there, is it the pan ?

Tell ya what, when you come by Augusta, GA and Pick me up; I show ya the connection.. Dahlonega GA, has Gold in all the streams and rivers. That northern section of GA and SC has Gold.

Birthday Boy( Kenny) is sitting near a Gold Mine
as far asa the connection, I forget at the moment but I think it has to do with heat and weight? I given up on panning/ Sluicing as all the land is locked here, and rules against resorces being taken... on state land.
They just want to collect the taxes without allowing you access without an extra fine or fee.

True Story

o00o I rememebr it has to do with the fact that; it is all a liquid at one point.. and as it cools it gravitate to quarts. often being sealed up inside.

Default gold and quartz

There is a definite correlation between gold and quartz. Gold occurs as fissures or disseminated particles in quartz veins and some schists. I would take a pan down to the stream and work an inside bend. Dig down at least 12-14" to get an accurate reading, sometimes deeper. Quartz (float) doesn't necessarily mean gold, but it's a good place to start looking. An old timer told me quartz is the most abundant mineral on the planet, over 75% I believe, but 98% of the quartz doesn't contain the precious metal. Hope this helps.

Yep! Georgia was one of the first original gold strikes.

Go out and do some sampling panning.

Iron stained Quartz is one of the best indicators you could ask for.

Gold Rides a Iron Horse.

Gold and Quartz are chemically related and are formed under the same sort of conditions.

If it was my show , I would go out there and dig down to bed rock and be most upset if I didn't find some color.

Gold is sometimes found entrained in quartz, usually this is deep gold from deep mining when they are together and they fetch a high price when found together. Gold found in a stream bed has usually been seperated from the quartz by erosion. The quartz is a crystalline structure (SiO2 is the chemical compound if I remember my geology) and gold is a metal (Au as we all know from the periodic table). Quartz is quite strong but will erode over the millenia and eons, the gold that is liberated from the quartz by erosion makes up the nuggets and dust found in streams. Find quartz and iron (also formed in the volcanic column or stack where gold accumulates) and you may find gold as well.
