Default Thought I'd give it a try.

Hello. Got the bug to try detecting. Did some research and purchased a Garrett 250. I figured if I keep doing it I can upgrade later if I want. I've never used one at all and I am eagerly waiting for it's arrival.

Welcome from Washington State. I have had my 250 about 2 weeks now and I love it. It is a great mid level performer at an entry level price. Sure, I wouldn't mind having a VDI display or a manual ground balance and some complain about the lack of a volume control. I for one am very happy ith my 250's performance it is light,easy to use, and once you spend about about 10 hour using it in all metal mode you have a pretty good idea what you are digging (or not digging).

Note: make sure to buy headphones with a volume control, I use the Garrett sound they are pretty cheap looking but perform well. IMO you don't need a high end pair of phones with this detector because it does not have a "real" no motion mode and the 8 sounds and three pitches or so it makes, including breaks, warbles, and truncated beeps are pretty easy to discern.

Battery life is also very good, I put 30 hours on my first set of alkalines and the meter still read 50 percent. I now use NIMH's (2000mah) and I get 2 outings 10+ hours per charge.

HA- Welcome aboard;
it wont take long after you get the bug hard; that you'll be trading up. It has taken over my fishing time. In Fact I haven't fished much at all since getting the bug..
... just don't do what I did; when I first started. Leave the 4ft spade shovel @home..
start practicing digging targets as soon as possible. The better at you are; the more targets you find..

some ol'cats can pull out a coin with a flathead screw driver. I use it to locate sometime. I don't want to scar the coin just incase it an important.

Default Welcome

Ditto to what bootybay said!! MDing is a fascinating and very addicting hobby/sport. The excitement and anticipation each time your detector sounds off is a total rush, IMO:o) Even with a detector that pretty much identifies what is buried, you just never know exactly what you'll unearth as far as age/date/value goes. You are in for a great time!! Welcome to the TQ family!!
