Default Books on Excalibur II

Hi - I noticed that Kellyco carries a number of books on the usage of the Excalibur. I am new to metal detecting, recently purchased an Excalibur II, and was wondering if any of those books are worth purchasing. With the holidays coming up I thought I might add one or more to my wish list. Any recommendations by those of you who have read such books?

Thanks!

Tony

Thanks Boo - I will put that on my wish list for the holidays!

Anyone else have reading suggestions for the mighty Excalibur?

I also picked up a copy of Clive Clynick's book Advanced Field Methods for the Minelab Excalibur: Theory & Practice. I would list the Table of Contents for ya, but he's got over 40 Chapters. The book includes both simple straight forward stuff along with some non-basic info that will warm up the "gray matter". Glad I purchased it!

Something that might help speed up the learning curve is a CD I got from KellyCo when I purchased my Excal. It is “Basic Ear Training for Excalibur” by Tony Diana. It won’t work any miracles but will introduce and help sharpen your listening skills to avoid some of those pesky trash occurrences. Some of the gold signals and trash signals are so close in sound that I will dig anyway just to make sure I haven’t overlooked something good.

Happy Hunting

Tony,

Just noticed in your "signature", that you have found two gold rings since Oct.! Super... I've never found anthing but junk rings. Maybe I need to move closer to the beach...

Good Luck

Thanks - I think I will add the CD you suggested to my list. Yes, I managed to bag two gold rings in short order, which really got me hooked.

But the past few weeks I have not stuck any more gold. I am hoping to change that soon. I do live on the West side of Florida near the coast - which certainly helps!

Does anyone know if the “Basic Ear Training for Excalibur” by Tony Diana is based on the original Excalibur or the Excalibur II? Or perhaps it does not matter? I have the Excalibur II and just want to be sure the sounds are pertinent to my detector.

Tony,

I'll have to check to confirm, but I am almost sure that there is no difference in tones with the Excalibur I or II. I have the Excal. II and the tones sound the same as the CD.

Hi - I actually checked with Tony Diana and he did the recording with Excal II, which is great (for us anyway). It sounds like there may be a slight difference between the Excal and Excal II:

Hey Tony...It was recorded with the Excal II since it is the newer model. But when I did the recordings I had the Excal (Model Prior to the II) with me and I compared signals. I found that the attack and release were a bit longer with the original. So if you can imagine a nickle signal sounding like the the word " none" on the Excal II. It would sound more like the sound "nnnonne" on the original. I also went hunting with Tony and Wanda from Kellyco and we compared side by side signals with the same result.
I think that the newer tornado coil on the Excal 2 makes it just a tad faster. Not sure why that is. I do hunt alternately with both machines and the sounds are the same. I hope they do not change the sounds if they come out with an Excal III
Best Regards
Tony Diana
