I have asked a few questions about the x-Terra 70 and 705 so I called a Kellyco sales rep and overall he said I needed the 705 but my question??
He said the coil could work underwater in ocean or lake with no problems(is this right) After lots of research I'm going to order my X-Terra 705 after Xmas. I'm thinking about getting a ace 250 also for trips.I'm an over the rd truck driver.I go to Washington state or california every week from north Carolina so there should be some spots for me to detect. I know the laws are different everywhere and I don't want to get in trouble in other states.(I'm thing marshes, rest areas,ext... While I'm on the rd any ideas?? |

Most all COILS are waterproof. In fact only 1 Minelab?( someone will tell me if I am wrong) coil that I know of isn't. This is a Double D coil.
The control box or brain of the detector is only waterproof/submersible in certain models to be used underwater. Environment covers make land machines rain resistant but not waterproof. IF you get the control box of a land machine wet and water gets inside its will short out and most likely not work again. This will void your warranty as its counted as misuse. IF you want to hunt in shallow water where your detector may be submerged a land machine is not the choice. If you want to hunt parks and other lands where a lot of trash is possible a water machine is not the choice as there is no discrimination AT ALL. There are a few Hybrid machines out there that are both water and land machines but these do not have an Visual/Target ID screen like the X-Terra 705 or X-Terra 70. You will be hunting with your ears alone(the best way to do it anyway). There are a lot of choices out there. You just have to decide where you want to use it. and what your budget will allow. Good luck in your search. On your locations to hunt, Most rest areas are state owned and usually off limits. I have heard of some hunting there but not very many, Last edited by majakldragon; 11-28-2009 at 02:06 AM. |

Thanks for that info.
I will be on edges of streams and creeks some and some water might get on it when I take a beach trip but not often. I just wanted to make sure not to mess it up by doing this. Mainly feilds, parks and such will be where I hunt. I have seen a minelab excalliber underwater detector for sale in my area for $500 but I've seen lots of stuff saying not to buy a used underwater detector. I don't think I will be near the water enough to spend that kind of money anyways. Thanks again |

you are partially right majakldragon. all Minelab coils are waterproof except the 5x10 18.75 khz DD. all of the others are waterproof, even the DD's

Thanks,I going to go with the x-Terra 705 most defintly now.
I'm new on here and didn't know much about MDing and I have never heard or Kellyco. The sales rep said he worked off commision so I just wanted to make sure he wasn't just saying what I wanted to hear to purchase a more expensive detector. It sounds like the people over there at Kellyco and on here are all on the up & up(good people) so thanks for being here to answer all my questions, even if I ask something stupid in the future(I'm sure I will)but if you don't know something, ask, right thanks again Last edited by John28; 11-28-2009 at 12:01 PM. |

Just so you know the coils are the same on the 70 and the 705. I run the 70 and it is a sweet unit. I have not had the chance to get the coil in water yet. Just be careful when you lift the coil up, or set it down. Do not allow the water to runn up the shaft into the box. Other than that and you are good to go.
Oh and KellyCo is good people, Beale.

Hey Howdy, no offense taken. I was just glad that I did remember the correct manufacturer and you verified that I did.
