Whites MXT The Whites MXT is one metal detector with three completely separate operating modes. Just toggle switch between gold prospecting, coin/jewelry or relic. The MXT Tracker becomes a specialized metal detector for that type of treasure.

Default Pinpointing WAY off!

OK. I am not new to Md'ing, but I can not pinpoint with this thing to save my life! It is consistantly off by about 2 1/2 inches, but not in the same direction....this is the only detector I have ever had an issue with....if it's withing 3 inches of the surface, the Propointer finds it and I am good to go before I start digging...if it is deeper than that, I can't find the target! Is that something White's can fix on a "tune-up"?....or is that operator error and there is a trick to this machine?

i wouldn't call it operator error, more like operator needs to practice and get used to it. not all machines pinpoint the same, a little practice and persistance and you will get good at it. i try to go by sound only and not the visual on the meter, seemed to work better for me on my Whites., but my x-terra works better by the picture on the screen.

What coil are you using?

If you're using the stock 950, pinpointing should be a snap. just use the standard + pattern over the target, listen for the tonal changes and you should be able to zero right in on it.

Other then that all I can say is practice, practice, practice...

(edit to add)
Don't forget to check out the sticky thread on top about pinpointing.

Pull to pinpoint, watch the bars go up (look for the highest bar) listen for the highest pitch scream THEN DIG it's simple as that !!!!!!

Its always in the hole of the coil. I will mark a blade of grass or some color so when I bend down; i dont lose track. Owning the MXT, trust me when it should be dead on. sometimes what happens is another Target you have disc out is interfering. some time you have to get that target out first to hear better. When you Drag your coil over it in the form of an "+" the lowest depth is ussaly where it is.

Good Luck.. Keep trying.. its a dead on machine.
