Default just ordered my first ever MD

Hi everyone after reading these and other metal detecting forums as well as researching metal detectors I finally ordered a Bounty Hunter Discovery 1100 today I know its not the most advanced machine out there but the reviews seemed good and it seems like a good starting unit for a person with zero experience in this field Plus it was in my present price range. I have for a long time seen people using MDs and often wondered what I could find this looks to be a fun hobby and I cant wait for the unit to arrive Hope this isnt a dumb question but can you use like the pod type earphones that I have with my Sony Walkman or are the big larger earphones better? I will probably run my machine on all metal and dig everything to start so I can learn what junk sounds like compared to good stuff When I get my machine I will let everyone know how my first days searching goes Regards to everyone junkcollector

Welcome to TQ JC. Hope you learn your machine, and find a lot of stuff.
I know some people have used the wireless earphones, and it worked for them.

welcome to the site. any earphones will work as long as they fit the jack. i think the big ones that cover your ears help drown out any backgraound noise so you can hear what you're looking for better, but I guess it's really just whatever is comfortable to you. I hope you have lots of good luck with your new machine!! keep us posted...

The ear bud, walkman style headphones are a blessing in the summertime, while the over the ear type are equally a god send to keep your ears warm in colder weather.

You will see posts where detectors whisper a deep target. For that you need over the ears style headphones, to drown out background noises.and to hear every little chirp. A lot of the Bounty Hunter machines have no volume control, so they don't whisper, they yell nice and loud at everything.

I think you can get by with the cheapies as a start.
