Welcome to the TQ!

No TDI is exact.

It could be effected by target make up.

Target Angle.

Target Size.

How far from the ground you hold the coil.

You will learn to better read it with time.

Do you always recheck the hole after removing what you think is the target?

Hello Vixen. Nice Choice on the Ace 250. I am no way a pro at the 250, but i know a thing or 2 about the machine. The depth meter is sometimes off. Plain and simple. You may have a target read 6 inches and turns out it is 3 or it could be on the surface. Here is what I listen for. The 250 makes a specific sound for a penny, dime quarter or 50cent or dollar. To me it all sounds the same...Ding..Ding...When I hear that Ding Ding sound when i sweep my coil over the target I look to see what it id's as. If I hear the Ding Ding sound and get a repeatable signal when I go over it several times..I am digging that signal. Just the other day I dug a Large Cent that Id'ed as a quarter to a 50cent signal. ..Listen for the Ding Ding sound. Also invest in a Good pinpointer. I recommend the Garrett Pro Pointer. It helps you locate your target when you dig your plug so much faster than having to dig through all that dirt to find your target. Take your 250 and lay it on your kitchen table or somewhere flat that doesn't have any metal. Turn it on, and run different coins in front of the coil and listen to the sound that it makes for the different items. Get used to the sounds that you hear. When you are out detecting and hear that sound you know you have a good signal under the coil. I have said it a thousand times. The Ace 250 is a COIN MAGNET. When using it the coins will literally jump out of the ground with this little machine. Also you can go onto youtube.com and type in CRACKBADGER...He has some great videos using the Ace 250. If you ever need anything just pm me. I will answer whatever I can to try and give you the edge over the next detectorist. Happy huntin...Keep on Diggin!

Welcome to TQ from the Great Northwest!

I don't kow anything about the Ace 250, other than a lot of folks use them, so it must be a descent little detector.

Have fun!

The best thing to do is wrap a plastic bag over that meter so you can't see it and dig any signal that gives a good solid tone. One that when you check it over and over its always in the same exact spot. Also get some head phones and listen to the tomes and all the little subtle differences made by different objects. It takes a lot of time and patience and a lot of digging but in the end you will have developed a skill which will never be equaled by those lying worthless meter. My bro has an old coin master, which has no depth or ID meter. When I first got my 250, and I thought I knew it all,me and him would go hunt and I would get a signal saying it was foil , so i would move on. I look back and hes over in the spot I just come from diggin up coins. Those meter are just an eye catcher that helps the manufacture sell MDers to folks who don't know any better IMHO. Good Luck!!
