Default Help me choose which Garrett!

Hey guys,

I'm looking at two Garretts, help me choose which one. I can get a Garrett GTI1500 with regular coil and a sniper coil for $550 delivered to the door. I can get the GTI2500 with regular coil and large 12 inch coil for around $780 to the door. I have no preconceived notions on either one, I hear they are very similar in performance, with the 2500 obviosly having a few more bells and whistles. My only limitation is I've had some shoulder surgeries and my shoulder fatigues a bit, but I'm not sure of any difference in weight, etc. What would you guys suggest? Let me hear it!

I researched both of those Garretts and decided on the GTI1500 which hasn't arrived yet (BUMMER). The 2500 has more "bells and whistles" but I really didn't want or even need them. In my opinion, I would opt for the 1500 and save some bucks for diggers/scoops and other MDing accessories. I am pretty sure both machines allow for "hip mounting" of the battery packs and that should lighten up the swing weight of the shaft and coil considerably. You can also invest in one of those shoulder mounted/worn "swing things" to help with the fatigue factor.

That's a great price on the 1500. I have the 1500. To be honest I would have probably bought the 2500 if I had the extra cash at the time. However I don't regret getting the 1500. It is really a great machine.
And yes, it is pretty heavy. Bothered me at first, but after I mastered my straight arm swing, my arm doesn't get tired as quick.

Bloodyknees,

Does taking the battery pack off for hip mounting make it lighter and easier to swing? Have you experimented with that at all?

Yes - it would make it a lot lighter. But I've never taken it off. Don't like being tied to the additional cord. I am currently using the wireless head phones from Radio shack so at present I am totally disconnected from the detector.
