Tesoro Vaquero The Tesoro Vaquero is a very versatile, all around detector, designed to do just about every kind of hunting you could want. With a 3 3/4 turn, manual ground balance, "HOT" (High Output Technology), and an ED180 "silent search" discriminator, a push button pinpoint, and a VCO style all metal mode, this detector at just under 2.2 pounds has "do anything power".

Default Vaquero tone

Hey guys, looking to purchase a Tesoro due to the light weight and a bad shoulder! I'm looking at the Vaquero and the Cibola. I know the Cibola is a single tone detector, how about the Vaquero? Is it single or multiple? Also, any recommendations between the two would be greatly appreciated. thanks

The Vaquero is single tone alos. It has a manual GB the Cibola GB is set.

The only Tesoro with mutiple tones is the Golden.

Tesoro Metal Detectors - Official company web site with metal detector models for treasure hunting land or water.

The Vaquero is a very deep hitter. Deeper than the Golden. It runs at a higher Freq and will hit gold harder. If you want the story on hunting with Tesoros, PM Tabdog, he finds some great stuff with his, Beale.

Does the Auto ground balance really limit the potential of the detector? The Cibola obviously seems simpler, but I assume you can ring more out of the Vaquero. Is the MGB really something the average detectorist needs, or is the cibola fine for most folks and situations?

IMHO a preset GB is fine for most soils. Only issue comes into play on high mineral soil. I have had 3 Tesoros 2 of them preset GB. The DeLeon is preset. I had a Vaquro and liked it.

The Cibola will find you the goods not doubt. You will dig more trash with a beep dig but that is where the gold hides. I am just learning the DeLeon. So far I like the combo of bargraph and ID#.

You can not go wrong with their products and the Lifetime Warranty, Breale.

Does the DeLeon have seperate tones along with the graph and numbers? The DeLeon caught my eye as well. How did you like the Vaquero's pinpointing? Of all of your Tesoro's which one would you recommend?

The DeLeon is single tone. The bar graph and ID# just give you an idea. It is up to you t dig or not.

I will be honest. My 1st real detector was the Minelab. Once you get used to ID# it is hard to go to a one tone model.

Out of the Tesoro's I have had for coin and park hunting the DeLeon. For relic and old deep stuff the Vaquero.

I would also PM Digging Fool. He had a Hightone Cibola he was looking to seel. He still may, Beale.

Last question. How are you liking the Deleon and how accurate is the ID? Also, how are you doing on the depth with the Deleon and pre-set Ground Balance? Would you recommend the Deleon for deep coins around old homesites, etc? Thanks for all of your answers. I really appreciate it!

I just got back fro my 2nd hunt with the DeLeon. If the bar graph and the ID# lock on it is very accurate. I still am learning it. I do like it. While I do not think it is as deep as the Vaqureo it still hits pretty deep. I found a dime down 6-7" today.

For coins I would recomend it anywhere. When it hits it hits hard. I will keep using it and learn the tone. A modern nickle, dime, and quarter will all hit in the same #number. So far I give it a very solid rating, Beale.

EBCIII: Before joining this forum I read it for months. Yours is one post I read all the time because it would seem you have a good deal of experience. Which brings me to a question: Do you find that mostly you dig by sound and not by VDI or any visual aid on the different detectors? I have several machines, some with VDIs, and now find myself searching by ear all the time. This is one reason I like the Tesoro Vaquero so much. At first I was attracted to VDIs but found them to be unreliable and tending to slow me down. Listening works better and faster for me. What's your take on this? I noticed you said the above machine hits several coins all on the same VDI number. That's not encouraging to me.

Hey Jane you know it is funny you should ask. More and more I go by sound. If the target souns good I will dig it. The VDI machines (my Minelab X-Terra included) can make you lazy. I tend to dig more targets with the Tesoro DeLeon.

Sometimes simpler just works, Beale.
