Default Tony's tip of the week for 6/26/06

I'd like to share some tips with everyone. Look back here every week for a new tip.

This weeks tip involves what to do when you find an old copper coin. Many of us find and old copper coin and immediately start rubbing the coin to find a date. If the coins wet this may not be a bad thing. The problem is that you only "clean" part of the coin off and the rest stays caked with dirt. When we get home we then try to clean the coin some more but find that the coin is now caked with "cement".
What I do is this ; When I find a copper coin I immediately place it into a small coin tube or 35mm film container that I have water in. This helps to keep the coin in somewhat it's natural state. It preserves the "integrity" of the find until I can properly remove the dirt that is attached to it.
