Hi Robert, if you will be staying on the beach and in the water the Sand Shark will work well and go deeper than the Tiger. Remember that PI machines have virtually no discrimination. So you will need to dig all targets with the Sand Shark which is what I would do myself.
But if you go inland, the PI will be more frustrating. The Tiger Shark of course being a VLF machine will discriminate and you will not have the myriad of signals that the PI type produces in a normal inland situation. Actually if you were fortunate to be near a goldfield the Sand Shark could be used as a gold detector since nugget hunters virtually dig all targets anyway. I am going to pass this along also. The Sand Shark uses printed circuit type coils and this approach to making a coil can have problems. But to be sure, Tesoro makes some of the finest metal detectors around and the Sand Shark is among those. I hope this is helpful to you Robert and if I can help you further in getting setup let me know. God Bless and happy hunting to you. John Tomlinson,CET P=VI John's Detectors Blackwell,Tx. I would have to say that you would be better off with the Tiger or the 1280X over the Sandshark. You mentioned some time under the gulf and on land and if you got a Sand Shark you'd be waisting air if diving digging a lot of junk targets and on land the PI will drive you nuts by having to dig every small junk target there. The Tiger and 1280 both discriminate and both are proven units. There is one other and that is the Headhunter Diver. This is lightweight and goes deep and can be used anywhere.
If you need more help please let me know.
