Default Another Question about the Silver uMax

I have spent over 30 hours using the new detector this week. I have found some neat stuff but now I have another question.

As I indicated, I hunt in soil that is of two basic types. One is with a topsoil layer from 3" to 8" over impermeable white clay. The other is beautiful delta type soil that is about 18" deep. Since I am unable to set the detector for ground type should I be turning the sensitivity up higher for the good deep delta soil (to pick up deep coins, etc.) and down some for the soil with the clay layer? I am not going to find any deep stuff in the clay soil unless someone has dug a hole and filled it with good dirt.

I am picking up iron relics (nails) in the good soil deeper than 8".

BTW I tried posting in the Tesoro Electronics forum too (I registered Thurs am). My membership still has not been approved. How long does it take???

HI WOODTURNER, SETTING THE SENSITIVITY ON YOUR MACHINE IS IMPORTANT AND YOU CAN GET IT TOO HIGH. BUT SINCE THE UMAX DETECTORS ARE NOT AS HOT AS THE VAQUERO AND CIBOLA YOU WILL WANT TO SET IT TO WHERE IT IS NOT TOO NOISEY WHICH AT TIMES COULD BE VERY HIGH. BUT IF THE CLAY DOES INTERFERE THEN BACK OFF UNTIL THE CHATTER OR FALSING STOPS. EVEN THOUGH YOU MAY HAVE TO SAY TURN IT BACK TO THE HALFWAY POINT IT STILL HAS GREAT SENSITIVITY. OK GOOD HUNTING AND I HOPE YOU SHOW YOUR FINDS. GOD BLESS. DAH DIT DAH.

Default Umax setting

Set your Umax for the 10 setting just before the orange area. If your ground is clean you can advance the setting into the orange. If you get a chattering sound back it off. I have used the umax for hundreds of hours. I just purchased an MXT but don't know if is any better than my Tesoros.
