Default Rutherford B. Hayes token/coin

Hello

I have a question about a Rutherford B. Hayes token/coin I found, believe it or not, in a bag of cypress mulch when I was doing my gardening last summer. I've searched all over online about this, and cannot find any information.

On the front of the coin is his bust, with his name in caps "RUTHERFORD B HAYES,"
which makes a half circle around the bottom of the coin. Around the top half circle of the coin it says "19th President, U.S.A. 1881." On the back it says, "Brigadier General in Civil War, Congressman, Governor of Ohio, Defeated Tilden (spelling ?) for the presidency by one electoral vote." On the top of the half circle on the back it says, "He Serves His Party Best Who Serves His Country Best."

If you have any information on this coin, the history, what it was used for, or if it has any current monetary value, please let me know. It is not silver, I don't think. It's kind of a rust color, maybe copper?

Thanks for your time,
Melissa

Hello,
Probably from the late 1960's given out by service stations. Can you post a picture?

Greg,
I will try and get a picture up next week - I have a friend trying to help me figure out my new digital camera (I think I bought one WAY over my head). When I get that done, should I post a new thread, or respond here again? Not sure how this works. And yes, I'm blonde.

No Pappy, it only has the Hayes bust on the front. There a bunch of writing on the back, telling about his service in the civil war, how he was the Governor of Ohio, and won the presidency by one electoral vote. I'm still working on getting the camera thing straightened out - life is SO crazy busy!

Just stumbled upon this post....

I found a presidential coin a few months back made of alumimum and the president listed was Chester Arthur. Mine turned out to be a Cracker Jack token from the 1930's. Does this link below resemble your coin at all?
