Default 15 pound carp on the Grand River

Hi guys. Didn't realize there were so many carp fishin th'ers around. First off, I don't belong to any carp fishing clubs. We live right on the river and the wife and I fish every day for Mr. carp in our own back yard. Our largest so far is a 30 pounder caught a couple years ago. We use 3 kernels of cooked feild corn on a hair rig for bait. We boil it for an hour and ad strawbwerry freshie for color and flavor. We also chum by throwing hanfuls of the loose corn into the water where our hooks are to be found.

I guess my approach is a little more..... to the point. This is me and a budy some 20+ years ago after a morning on the James River. That's me on the right. I've nailed some 40+ pounders in my youth back in North Dakota. I can't say I like eating them, but I sure loved sticking them. The pigs loved me bringing them back, too.

We also used sweet corn kernels and usually added some partially cooked potatoes to the mix.

Doug, does that photograph bring back some memories for me, we used to hunt crap in the shallows while they were up spawning in the spring !!! an old neighbor of ours took all the crap and suckers we caught, he had several smokers going all the time...............

Growing up on a river, I have some great memories of my days spent shooting carp. Heck of a way to spend a summer day!
