That looks like fun! Do you enter in those smash um up contests? I think building a robot would be very cool, Beale.

Build one that looks for treasure. This way you can lounge around the pool longer in the summer. : )

Whoa! Can't believe the traffic on this forum. Just snuck out for a little while this afternoon and my post has become a thread.

No EBCIII, my bots are the strong, silent types that spend a lot of their time thinking, not those mayhem creators and destroyers.

Haven't tried building a detector either Anne, I've only been in the hobby a month. Give me a break, eh?

However, Dugday, I have thought about a DetectorBot. It wouldn't be that difficult to build a 3-wheeled platform that covered a given grid thoroughly and showed up all hits on an LCD. To aid accuracy you could incorporate a GPS and/or compass but dead reckoning would likely be best. Dead reckoning means that the bot keeps track of distance traveled and angles turned, thus being able to stay on a grid. The front wheels could be 3' apart and the head could scan between the wheels between intervals of forward movement. This would likely work best on a fairly level, clean surface.

Cheers, Harry
