Hello -

I am new to metal detecting. My interest stems from coin collecting and due to the fact I live in south-central KS. There is a lot of western history in this part of the world which is another interest I have. When I was rather young I had a metal detector - a Radio Shack home made jobber. It didn't work very well.

Anyhow, I bought a MineLab Musketeer Advantage about three weeks ago. I've been out almost everyone weekend for some amount of time. I started in my yard - which now looks like a war zone. I've moved over to a park near my home - haven't left any holes as I have started cleaning up my digging process. And just last weekend I hunted on some church property.

So far I have found pull tabs, foil, wire, nails, screws, bolts, pipe, gas can top, skoal can top, and a list of other items too numerous to mention that one wold classify as junk. I have actually found one quarter, one dime, and 4 pennies. Then again, when I was hunting last weekend my two youngest kids found a quarter and a nickle glued to the side walk and they had fun giving me a hard time about having found more money than I had.

ez ...

ez! when i started last month i think i cleaned all the junk out of eastern carolina. But lately it's been getting better. i have found 59 pennies 4 of which were wheat, 5 nickles, 10 dimes two of which were silver (1963 and a 1964), and 2 quarters one of which was a 1943 silver. so as you can see i'm not finding the treasures of the world but as time goes by the finds get better. so keep the faith and keep on hunting!!!! And welcome to this awesome forum!!!!!!

Take heart, it wasn't until my third trip out before I found anything worth mentioning. But boy, after that it was a different story.

Hey EZ! You should have seen all the pulltabs and foil I dug today! I've been at this for about a year or so and I dig alot of my signals from foil and up so hopefully I will find some gold! As you get to know your machine you can decide what to dig! Some days I find neat stuff and other days I come home with nothing of interest, but in all still had a good day out!

Keep on a diggin! and your going to find something really neat!

Got to love this hobby!

Pat

Oh yeah...my son found a faded $5.00 dollar bill one day when I was finding nothing and really rubbed it in too! So in all we still had a good day!

Happy hunting!

From the land of the Bluenose...welcome to the hobby. If you ever get the chance try going detecting with a seasoned vet. Can show you the proper way to extract coins from the ground so that no one will ever know you dug there. Lost a few places here in Nova Scotia to dig as newbies made a mess. That is why I make it a point to take out every newbie I come across. Great hobby and we have to preserve it and our hunting grounds. Still haven't figured out, even after 30 years of detecting how to fill my holes on swishes (water digs)!
