hello Greg I would love to go detecting but i live in N.Y. now but am getting the itch to head south again soon.If you go you should cheak out George Wasshingtons nat. birthplace monument in westmorland, just down the road from were you camp. Its one of my favorite spots.iv found some nice fossils there.(sharks teeth, bison tooth.bear and aligater teeth, and a rare bird bone )Also there was an old dance hall on the river in colonial beach.actualy just down river,by boat its just a couple of minutes. You should be able to see the Foundation.I had permission but have not been there in years.Part of it was over the water and you should find somthing in the water as its not deep there. If i head that way ill let you know. You can stop at the scuba shack in Fred.and talk to John he might be able to point you in the direction of a spot or two also.Good luck and mabey ill see ya there.Picket post is another place to get some info.Picket post is on the net.

Hi Rip,

Great!
Hey, I visit Geo.Washington's birth place about 3 times every year when I'm camping. We picnic there too. We also pick sharks teeth there at low tide. Its a family tradition. Last year my daughter found pieces of dinner plates in the water there at Pope's creek it was George Washington period.
His slaves loaded/unloaded the ships at that spot.

Another couple spots we visit are Stratford (Lee's birthplace) Westmorland berry farm & "Guinea Station" in Fredericksburg (Stonewall Jackson passed away there)

I have that itch too but need to raise my kids here then were off.

Default Washington birthplace

hello,I first visited here with my parents in the 70s.Was a family tradition every easter.Great place to be in the spring. It was usuely still cold and snowing in N.Y. Thinking about it is realy making me itch.Im starting to remember all those nice civil war treasures like the two piece buckel i found just off of Laffaette Blv.bettwen a used car lot and a gas station.across the street from the "consinment juncktion" I only found 1 half so if you stand facing the field between the lot and station go 40 paces turn right go30 more.............Good luck ....Terry ohh and also a friend found a Texas "star" button here also for that one go left instead of right.
