Default About Digger Todd

I'm new here ...feel free to read this if you don't fall asleep!

Live in NE Arkansas, 36 years old, formerly a Confederate Civil War re-enactor (for the South of course ). I have read & studied the War & Meteorology both for about 20 years. I am the author of a fictional short story (a thriller, 70 pages written in 1995) set in Memphis,TN. I am now writing a collection of short stories about my family...aiming for something around 300 pages.

I got into gold prospecting about 4-5 years ago, went a few times in the southern Missouri and north Arkansas area...neither known for historical gold deposits, but a little IS in the streams and creeks of some areas. I have known of metal detectors for years, but never thought I'd like one. That changed a short time back when I found an old cent and some other old coins lying on the ground. I thought if I was able to find those just sitting atop the ground, I wonder how much better I could do with a detector?

Now its a matter of waiting on my detector to arrive and then try and find some good places to go that are not far off.

A very big hearty WELCOME to ya diggertodd. Glad to have ya with us here. I tried a little panning quite a few years ago in the Black Hills. It was fun, and I wish there was places around here in lower Mich that would show some color. I would take it up again just to see if I could still do it. BTW, the two weeks I was in the BHs, I only found about three itty bitty flakes. Still got them somewhere in a vial. There's gold mines in the upper peninsula, maybe I should take a road trip eh.

Hi digger. I would love to read your story. I love stories about the south. I guess since you are into the Civil War reenactment thing and write about Memphis, you and Shelby Foote must be tight . I had such a crush on him when he did that Civil War documentary .

Can't say I know Shelby Foote, but I have heard of him, most anyone around the Memphis metro areas has. I've got a friend who knows him fairly well, kind of on a "professional" level even though my friend is not a writer.

I have not written about the War yet, but hope to someday. Just 1 fictional short story so far that almost got published but I had no idea of the business end of it all. Right now working on a collection of stories about my mom's side of the family.

Guess my biggest "claim to fame" is being a Confederate extra in "North & South Book II" back in 1985. The battle scenes were filmed on a farm outside Natchez,MS...I do have one very good spot in the film where I can be seen plain as day for all of 3-5 seconds, but there's no doubt its me, even a bit of a close up! ha ha

Patrick Swayze was walking to do a battle scene in the film and kicked me in the ankle one day! I was stretched out- leaning against some earth works they constructed for the Petersburg battle scene. I don't know how I managed it, but I had my feet out and was about to stand up when a guy walks by with those officers boots on and POP, kicked me right in the ankle. Hurt like a SOB and I, being a bit mouthy at 16 years of age back then, hollered out "why don't you watch who you are kicking"...The guy turned around and kind of grinned, never said a damn word though! I thought I recognized him, but a buddy sitting next to me said, "You just yelled at Patrick Swayze"...I said the SOB kicked me in the ankle and I didn't care who he was! Funny now, but it had a sting to it back then.

Default Hi DiggerTodd

I'm a newbie here, too.....and just getting started. I live in NW Arkansas, near a lot of civil war battle sites and encampments....so there is a lot of relic hunting grounds around here. But I had no idea there was any gold at all. After reading your post....I wonder if you could get in touch with me about some places I could look? Appreciate any help you could give. Hope you are having a great 4th !!!
