I've been using a probe for about a year and I would definetly recommend it to anyone, but especially to someone newer to detecting or anyone who has some trouble pinpointing. I like to make as small a hole as possible and a probe helps me to do this. It makes it easier to find your target and will save you lots of time. They will also find the stuff that is on the side of the hole that you don't pull out with the plug, and are great for finding small dime and earring size objects, which seem to be invisible when old and dirty.
