Default Newbie...Western Pa is polluted with THers

Hi All,

I have spent the last 2 days reading posts here, and am blown away by how many of you are from nearby communities. I live in Greensboro now, but lived and worked in Beaver County for 12 years. I know most of the places where you guys live....it just seems really odd that so many of you are so close. Smithfield's just about 10 miles or so from here. I've been to other boards, and western Pa isn't so well represented. Somebody posted who's from Wampum...I have a good friend who lives there and builds pedal steel guitars. I used to do instrument repairs for a music store in New Brighton. Been to Midland umpteen times...married a girl from Butler once....I look forward to meeting some folks here to possibly go hunting with. I am a "transplant" here in Greene Co, and don't know lots of folks, so my hunting areas are limited. There are some sites around that should prove interesting though. I had an old timer tell me where a one room schoolhouse was.....and it's all wooded now. You would never suspect that anything had ever been there. There has GOT to be some old cellar holes in these woods too....but I had 2 heart attacks this summer and won't be blindly wandering the ridges and hollows....rather think I'll talk to some old hunters and ask them where they are.

Seems it may be a sin nowadays, with all of the new hotshot machines that folks are using, but I still use an old analog machine....a 1983 White's 6000DI pro that I bought brand new. I have a buddy who bought a brand new Eagle spectrum when they first came out, and from the little bit I messed with it, I wouldn't take 2 of those for my old machine. I guess it's all in what you get used to.

I've been detecting since 1974, my first machine a White's beachcomber which served me quite well until I actually took it to a beach...and the salt water did it in. I had another White's unit after the beachcomber and before the 6000....an old coinmaster IV that I bought for 10 bucks. It was old and took a ton of penlight batteries, but it worked pretty well.

I guess I'm just blabbering now. The prospect of meeting new friends with similar interests is exciting. I look forward to becoming an active member of this little community. I have enjoyed this hobby for a long long time. Enjoying it with others would be icing on the cake.

Thanks folks.....

Wyatt Fawley

Hey for all you folks near Butler Pa.

During the early 70's i was into Customized Vans and we went to large gatherings called "Truckins" for van enthusiasts from all over the country. I think it was 1973 or so they had a huge Truckin at some large field in Butler County and over 5000 Custon Vans were there and it was like Woodstock because it rained and it was a muddy mess all over the place , huge crowd of folks everywhere and Vendors galore and it was all cash and plenty of it changed hands.Must have been about 10,000 people there for 3 days and wonder how much was lost there. Just a thought if it's still there and not a parking lot HH Bill

Thanks guys for the warm welcome. My Dad was into the Wyatt Earp series when I was born. It was as big as "Dallas" was in the 70s....everybody was hooked on that series. I wish I had a nickel for every time I heard:
"Wyatt Earp, Wyatt Earp, Brave, courageous and bold...
Long live his name and long live his glory, and long may the story be told". .....the theme song to the series. I never saw it mind you, but I do so know the song. My Grandfather's name was Virgil. That may have had some beqaring on my being named Wyatt too....I don't know, and my Dad's been gone for a few years.

Greg....I know where there are a couple picnic areas we could try and hit....one in Point Marion, and one along Dunkard Creek (swimming hole)....and the old 4H camp at Cheat Lake has produced some Barber coins though I've been there but once. We could always venture into Waynesburg and hit some parking strips. It used to be all metered parking over by the college, and I've dug some mercs and roosies there myself. I'd like to get together and go on a hunt sometime. I know where a church once stood too....in Point Marion....not there now though.
I'll try and give you a call later this evening.

Still some sawdust to eat this evening, so I'll catch up with you folks later.

Thanks again...........Wyatt Fawley
