Hello to all, my wife and I are wondering what is the best metal detector on the market? We are both retiring at the end of May and the future is wide open.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Smile All have their good points

Try several if you can. Lots of them to choose from.
I found Garrett to be the easiest to get accustomed to.
Another plus of the Garrett is it's guarentee.
Look in pawn shops I have seen several machines there.

The Bounty Hunter is very reasonably priced but you may want a machine with greater depth seeking abillities. The Bounty Hunter is a good start machine. Then get a better one.

There is a learning curve when it comes to digging trash up. Don't get frustrated.

Good luck on your new adventure.

Funny you should mention getting frustrated, as i was thinking of mentioning this earlier I have 2 brothers with detecters and they both give up if they arent finding anything good right away.Got an awsome new spot to search today, brother Dave gave up after about a 1/2 hour. But that leaves more for me ! I know that it was the same for me also. But once i bought a high end detecter that changed my Whole outlook ! I would sugest that a beginer buy the best if you can afford it.Also if you can find a spot with minumum trash for example an old house site rather than say the local fairgrounds that could help.(I still lose intrest fast at our local fairgrounds due to all the trash even though i know that there is still some good stuff there)I also agree that the Garrets are very user friendly.Best of luck HH...Terry

Hi Stevieray and welcome to TreasureQuestXLT and the forums. May I suggest that yo try to come up with a price range that you want to spend for a detector first. Also what type of detecting you want to do such as coin or relic hunting and where you will most likely look such as land or beach. This way you can narrow down your choices. As far as "best" detector on the market ; that it a matter of opinion and some opinions come from the fact that the user happens to use that one particular model. It may very well be the best for them however , in my 31 years experience I find that the Minelab Explorer II is the best all around detector followed closely by the Whites DFX and the Fisher CZ3D. All of these will go deep and find many good targets. If you need any more help give me a call or I can call you if you like.
I look forward to helping you.

Default chosing a detector

Iwould suggest that if you have never owned a detector, that you might start out with a Garrett Ace 250. They are inexpensive and the most raved about detectors on the market today. Cost: about $200.00 and that might be with some freebes. texaspapa

Most of the Tesoro's are audio only but they have a life time warranty. They have a price range of 160.00 to 850.00. The Garretts are audio and visual, with a two year warranty. They have a price range of 150.00 to 1250.00. The higher end Garrett's will go deep and show you what you are digging.

Default What area are ya'll in?

What area are ya'll in? Reason I ask is cause some of our members have different metal detectors for backups and maybe someone could schedule an outing with you so you can see for yourself different models in action and maybe try your own hand at using them as well before you go make a purchase. That way you pretty much know what to be looking for when you go shopping. Also check out the dealers that advertise with Treasure Quest for some good buys and real old fashioned advise and how to's..
