Default Serious?

Well Pappy...I did spend some serious money on those optics! I just hope I can become as serious with my newfound interest in Metal Detecting!

(I have eyepieces that cost more than what I paid for my Ace 250!)

I don't expect to make profitable finds...I'll just enjoy the novelty of having my Ace 250 tell me that there's something hidden just a few inches below my search coil!

Incidentallty...that Latin motto translates: "Mountaineers are Always Freeman", which is the motto of my home state of West Virginia.

Hal

Default West Virginia

HEY PAPPY:

I was born in Wheeling, up in the Panhandle, on July 11, 1936. I lived on Wheeling Island until 1944 when we moved out to California so my dad could take a wartime defense job. He was a Pennsy Railroad fireman until then, keeping the boilers hot on steam locomotives hauling coal and steel for the War effort.

Living on the Island was like a Tom Sawyer dream existence for me...just a stone's throw from the riverbank on the Ohio side of the Island.

What's your home town?

Hal

Hey Hal, You and I are both into the same hobbies, Astronomy & Metal Detecting! I also have an Ace 250. I have been active in astronomy for over a decade. I own a Celestron NexStar 5, the origin of the NexStar line of scopes. I also own a classic Meade LX200 8" S-Cass. I have a 4.5" Meade Newt. Reflector. Binoculars include Celestron 15x70 astronomical & some 10x50's. Astrophotography cameras include 3 Olympus OM-1's as well as a Philips ToUcam for planetary imageing. You're right concerning costs when astronomy becomes your #1 hobby. I work from 4am to 4pm 6 days per week, therefore it's really hard to get outside to meet the heavy demands of astronomy. That's one reason I purchased larger binoculars - portable and quick! So I needed a daytime hobby and metal detecting was calling my name! I'm glad to know there are others here in TQ that share the same interests! As I write this I am "roughing it" camping! LOL! Glad I have internet on my phone! Stars are out, temperature is beautiful in the 50's. Binocular's by my side (both pairs!). Metal detector in tent for the night (already found my first ring today in woods! More about this later when I can get pictures posted!). So, Welcome to TQ! Please keep up posted with all your finds!
