The strange but true tale of Arion, a pioneering musician and poet. Made to walk the plank at sea, he jumped overboard and rode to safety on a dolphin; a statue of him & the dolphin at Taenarum in southern Italy (23-24).

The pirates around 70-60Bc would hold important captives for ransom while victims of lesser status, whohoped their roman citizenship would protect them, were treated to a bizarre charade. The pirates would profess awe and fear and then fetch roman clothes and footwear for them to wear, in order, so they said, that others would not make the same mistake. This done, the unfortunate prisoners were, one by one, hoistes out on to a ship's ladder and made to climb down, rung by rung, into the sea.
They thought they were being let free. Step into liberty. |

INDY that is a NO
bitterkarma... your close and is probably another way for the Myth... heres what i have... As early as 100 bc pirates preyed on Roman shipping in the Metteranean and those brigands played a cruel game with these captives. They would fall to their knees when the Romans identified themselves as subjects of the Emperor and with Great sarcasm begged for mercy, ending by telling their victyims that they were ..Free To Walk home .. But the only place the romans could walk was over the rail and into the Sea. WTG bitterkarma.. A Mug O Rum for You ! ![]() Next Test question will be Tomarrow morning. |
