Yep, Capt. He be dead! On the bottom. Killed by grape shot and his crew followed his request!
In early February of 1722, Captain Challoner Ogle was dispatched by the British Government to find and capture Roberts. His warship, the "Swallow" , chased Roberts from the Caribbean , caught up with the "Royal Fortune" and attacked. The pirates were anchored in Cape Lopez , where they were celebrating. The fight started and Bartholomew Roberts was the first to fall. He was hit by grapeshot and died immediately . Horrified crew threw his breathless body into the sea. It was his wish, in case of his demise. Without their captain, the pirates could not resist much longer and they surrendered soon after. Captain Ogle also captured Roberts's small vessels from his fleet and found an enormous amount of gold on them. I be late again! Last edited by homefire; 05-06-2008 at 09:17 PM. |

BIG mistake = Black Bart and his crew Attempted to flee towards the open sea and sailed right past The Swallow.
His plan was to sail past the Swallow only once, risking a single broadside before catching the wind to escape. Instead, the helmsman, panicking, exposed the vessel to a second broadside. The Swallow opened fire with its guns, and Capt. Roberts was killed instantly by grapeshot. What's probably still on the bottom of the ocean is Capt. Roberts' body. The crew tossed him overboard, as per his request.
