I would be guessin' the Tradewinds. They meant good sailing and were parallel to the trade routes.

I hope this question doesn't have anything to do with Cabin Boys, Capt. TIN.

Could Ye be thinking of a good Yarn, Capt. TIN?
Helped pass the time shipboard and parallelled the lives of the crew.

Be that the answer to Ye question, Captain?

I be thinkin' a good sturdy ship! As ole' Capt. jack would say, a ship...well that be freedom. Freedom to be a pirate.

Could it be lines of latitude, which parallel the equator and let a pirate know where he's at and where he's to. Chronometers weren't the best so accurate longitude position was a bit hit and miss but latitude could be determine by a sun shot using a simple sextent. This comes in mighty handy if you're trying to avoid the doldrums, the sargasso sea, or a reef for that matter, it also let's you intercept treasure ships enroute to Spain.

(might not be the right answer but you've got to admit it's a pretty good one)
