It sounds like the dreaded Italian Grappa to me, TIN. I grew up beside Little Italy in Toronto so I had lots of paesons for neighbours, great bunch of folks who took a shine to this mangecake. Sal Vella's pop used to make the Grappa after the wine pressing was done and was that stuff potent. The Italian guys I worked construction with used to always bring a little grappa for the coffee before we started work on site in the winter time, warmed you to the bone.

There is question as to whether Jose Gaspar was a real person or not. Gasparilla is a festival held in Tampa ,Florida. My guess be, Gasparilla.
