Default Removing iron stains from silver coins?

Hey Greg.....The patina is pretty much gone from this Barber already, so what can I do to get rid of the iron stains? I didn't dig it....but this coin looks dug to me. It was cheap....so I decided to try and get the iron off of it when I get it. Might even try a little re-toning experiment with sulphur. This coin meets most of my criteria....but it's not an attractive one by any stretch of the imagination in it's present condition.

Hi Wyatt,
You might try MS-70. it would be a good product to have around for your dug coins too. Heres what it does:
MS-70 coin cleaner. Industrial strength coin brightener. It's like nothing ever on the market. Safe on gold, silver, copper, nickel, bronze and brass. Contains no acids or solvents, will not discolor mint state copper coins when used as directed. Designed to remove surface contamination such as PVC and dirt.

It goes for around $7 for an 8 oz. bottle. You can get it from kenscoins here at the forum.

Good luck with it.

I have a couple silver dimes with rust spots too....I might try some of the CLR...calcium, lime, and rust remover and see if that will dissolve it. I also have some PB blaster...like WD-40......and that's supposed to dissolve rust.

45 degrees already...warm enough for me. I'm out the door....detector in tow.

Try Jewellery Cleaner. Very safe and non-abraisive. Made for use with delicate silver. In truth though, coins should not be cleaned at all. But if the patina is gone any way... Give it a try.
