OK......Bought a second lot from this same seller....only 43 dollars for this lot.
There's a sliver of a coin showing under the 2 Jefferson nickels that are to the upper right of the AU/BU Walking Liberty half.....and I have been completely unable to identify it from what I can see....unless that's the cap of Liberty on a seated dime? Whatever it is....it has a wire edge....so it's not a buffalo....but all are said to be US coins. Any ideas?....guesses? Hunches? BTW...Check out that V-nickel....woo hoo....can't tell the date....and this guy never will tell you anything....but it doesn't really matter....I can tell a high grade V nickel when I see one....and at the price I paid...the date doesn't matter. I think it was a steal....that walker is defintely AU...and any V nickel in that condition is a real prize....even an 1883...though a later one would be more interesting since those weren't hoarded in huge numbers like the inaugaural year.

I don't think all of the stuff was....but the last lot contained several dug wheats. It also contained an 1940 wheatie in AU...and I know that one didn't come from the ground. It still has about 90 percent of the mint luster intact.
I'll post some pictures when this lot arrives later this coming week. I think that looks like the cap on Liberty's staff on a seated coin, and might be a letter S to the left of it....which would be right too...the S in "States" would be in that position on a seated dime. Previous lots this same seller has sold...contained seated coins....so it's possible. That standing liberty is either a 27-D or a 27-S.....and a good date either way. I can enlarge the scan and read that one. I think the V-nickel is 1904 and in EF....and a 30 dollar coin. The V and the SLQ book for more than I paid for everything. There's an 1888 Indian head in this lot.....and I think an 1883. I lost the bidding war on a second lot right before this one closed....and I think I was lucky to get this one. The auto sniping programs I've seen bid with 5 seconds left. My bid registered with 1 second left in the auction on this lot. I'll bet that gripes the e-snipers. Wyatt |

I just now noticed something else in this lot.....that SLQ ia NOT a 1927. It's an earlier one...without the recessed date....and looks to have all 4 digits present, and may be mintmarked, but I'm less certain of that. That may be a real prize too even with a rim ding at 6 o'clock. I'll detail this lot with some pictures when I get the coins later in the week.
I think the sliver of a coin showing....may be a flying eagle cent. That could be the eagle's tail....which extends almost all the way to the edge of the coin at a similar angle. I'll let everybody know when I find out. Wyatt Earp Last edited by Wyatt Earp; 02-12-2007 at 08:52 AM. |
