Many aren't as fortunate and we have lived in a couple of places where your neighbor won't even look at you (you may not want them to ). I think it's a pity, and it sure makes a difference when the effort is made.

If we all made the effort maybe things could start to change back to how it should be.

Great post!!!
I agree, 100%. Communities are like people...each one seems to have it's own personality. I lived in Brunswick County(where the wife is from) for 3 years, and that place and people are incredible. Old-fashioned, very friendly neighbors, etc. We decided to move back to my locale(the 88 acre farm). Built a new house in '91. House is nice, farm is nice, and we enjoy the environment. But the folks around here are something else! That's why I enjoy TQ so much. It allows me to communicate with friendly folks while living amongst some that are not so "congenial". It's very much appreciated

DF, You said it all. I am 46 years old and was taught by my parents to help your neighbors. We had a massive ice storm here in Missouri and I lost a power for 8 days. Our home dropped to a cozy 26 degrees before I was able to get a generator. I spent the better part of two weeks with a chainsaw clearing downed trees from the homes of all the elderly and handicapped people I could find knowing my own could wait. I expected nothing in return. Those that insisted on paying me, I took that income and went to second hand stores and bought every blanket I could find and gave them to a local animal shelter to help them keep the animals warm.

I did it because it was the right thing to do. If people could have seen the the smiles on those faces I helped, they'd understand. But as you said, people are just to busy to care these days.
