Default dfx questions

where can i find a good deal on a dfx, as i just got rid of a minelab quattro, as i had an awful time pin-pointing with it. also went through a garrett and bounty hunter as i couldn't find much but trash with them. where i live is highly mineralized with iron ore as i live in the iron range of michigan. any help would be appreciated. i quit talking to the folks at kellyco as they never hunted in iron before it seems. thanks.

Welcome to TQ. If yoy are not in a hurry you can watch the classifieds here and Ebay for a good price but I consider buying one from our sponsors here a "good deal". JC

Default Try E-bay

I purchased my DFX on E-bay. I am very happy with the detector, even though it was used a lot, It still works great, and I use it almost every day as long as the weather is good.

Hi juice,

Just my opinion of course and sure others will have express theirs but i'm not sure the DFX is what you need at your iron infested sites. I had a DFX and still use the XLT which i feel would be better at iron infested areas but not the best choice either.

There are many detectors that folks claim work well at iron infested sites and mostly are slower sweep quick response 2 filter type detectors using small coils and have lowend discrimination qualities as nulling in iron produces little results in my opinion. Here's a few that i've used with very good results and no plans to sell them

The discontinued Whites Classic IDX or IDX Pro with 4" or 6" coils. The Modified version is more versatile. What i like best is the ability to use what is called the Black Sand switch which effectively allows the operator to have more control over lowend disc. This is my Favorite and they popup at times on various forum classifieds.

The Fisher 1236x2 is very good at iron infested sites especially with the 5" coil in heavy iron but the 8" is good most of the time. Nice detector.

Minelab Advantage also performs well at iron sites and will hit very deep in my soil on copper, brass and silver. (Too expensive to buy New) but good deals on used ones.

Believe it or not i'm beginning to understand and like the Fisher F2 performance at iron sites using the 4" coil. The recovery speed is very quick. Wonder what the F75 is like hmmm.

There are other detectors that folks swear work well at iron infested sites and would suggest asking a few more questions before just plunking down some big bucks for a DFX or any highend detector where a more specific purpose detector may work better. Heck ,check out the Tesoro Compadre for about $150 bucks. Good Luck HH Bill
