Default Coils for the M6

Looking to purchase the M6 and was interested in any comments about additional coils. I have read where the 6x10 DD, 4x6DD and the 5x3 are being used. Does anyone have good experience with these coils and their strong and weak points?

All of the Whites coils are very good for there intended job. I use the 6X10DD most of the time on my MXT and it works great, there is a small learning curve with the pinpointing of the DD coils. The 5.3 and 4X6DD are great in trash giving the edge in depth to the 5.3. The DD coils do better in mineralized ground.

Take Care,
Bill G

Thanks for all your help. This was an older post and I did get the M6 and ordered the 6X10 Whites special. Thanks for the tips on pin pointing as well.
You have been very helpful. Wish the 6X10 would arrive but I would imagine that Whites is putting many coils for $49.95 in boxes.....

Default Chuck heres another tip for the 6X10DD

Chuck, another tip on the 6X10DD for pinpointing. After you do the wiggle and get the target to the tip of the coil you can move the coil forward slowly with a little movment, very minimal side to side keeping your center line listining to the sound, and when it gets the loudest and your depth meter reeds the shallowest, the target will be dead center of the coil right in front of the rod conection. I use this method a lot to tell the depth of a target if its coin sized. The 6X10DD will read a little deeper than what the target is as the M6 is calabrated for the stock 950 coil for depth readings and will be off a little on any other coils used.

Also, I did the same thing and just sent in the coupon for $49.95 for a new coil. I just upgraded from the M6 back to the MXT and got the same coupon. I am waiting on the 4X6DD shooter coil to add to my coil selections for the MXT. You can not beat a new coil for $49.95

Good luck,
Bill G

Default Bill G. Up grading

Bill,
You mentioned that you went up to the MXT. Just curious why you moved up to that machine. I, being a newby, thought that they were fairly equal machines especially if you kept them in all metal mode. I am just trying to get a feel about maybe moving up to another machine when I get more proficient with the M6. I may be leaning towards something like a Tesoro however, that is just a thought at this time. I feel that I need to get a whole lot better with the simple Whites M6 to be comfortable with a more manual machine like the Tesoro. Just curious why folks choose what they do and I learn from others' reasoning.
