Default Prizm IV to M6 is it worth it?

I have a prizm IV that I used for 8 months. I think I did ok with it[ 2silver quaters 2 mercs 5 silver rosies] but I get alot of hits that may be too deep for the prizm -very faint non repeatable. I'm hunting small orchards 6-8 trees and older 1885-1955 yards. Will the M6 go deeper than the prizm? Will the different coils help? Not available for prizm. I also have a beach house [Jersey shore] I can use from Oct-Mar. How is the M6 on the beach?

Welcome to the site! Glad you are on.

I do not have a whites, but we have lots of members who do. I hear very good things about the M6. I know someone will chime in to help. Good luck with your choice.

Oh by the way your finds are very good with the Prizm, Beale.

Quaidmon welcome to Treasure Quest. I Use a Whites XLT and it's good in the dry sand of the beaches for sure. When it gets in the water it has false signals..But still it's a good dirt/ beach machine. I have found some good things with it for sure. "E" uses a prism 3 I think and she finds all kinds of good stuff in the sand..I am not too familiar with your model, but some one will speak up..Happy Hunting...Buster....

Buster - when you purchased your XLT - did you compare it to the DFX? If you did - what did you like about both of them...and what did you NOT like about both?

Shawn, I had read a bunch on the XLT and at the time I was running a older Garrett. I was having trouble hearing some tones and the XLT had adjustments for that. Ended up selling my Garrett and saving up for the XLT. That was not a bad choice. This has helped me out a lot. Have found a lot of good stuff with it and it always it rings true. I think I made the right choice on the XLT for sure. I have gotten a lot of extra programs for my XLT and they seem to all work. It is not hard to switch programs. The standard ones work fine, but I thought that I would try some others also..The DFX is close to the XLT in what I can tell. I think it has more programs to use and it is supposed to go deeper.I believe I made a good choice and I will stick with it. From what I hear about the Ace 250, I think I might get one for a back up machine. The posts on that machine seem really good.and it seams that it is a true hunter and easy to use. Hope this helps out with any questions if you are thinking about the XLT or The DFX.......Buster......

Never used a Whites Prizm but have an M6 and coil versatility is an important attribute when deciding which detector to use. The M6 has more than enough coil options to overcome most hunting conditions as it shares coils with the MXT and DFX. The M6 is a very good detector. HH Bill

The main advantage with the M6 is it has a really good ground tracking system that can be used in the lock position after ground balancing or allowed to track the ground. This feature alone makes the M6 worth having over a fixed ground balance detector like the Prizm. The locked position is great for iron trash areas after being balanced on clean ground. Also the coil selection is really good for the M6 and the meter is a lot better, also it is a pretty powerfull little detector that works well with the 6x10DD Eclipse coil and the 5.3 Eclipse coil for trashy areas. With the 5.3 coil the M6 is a darn good coin sniper in trash. The M6 has a fast recovery speed and it can be swung a very low speeds in trash to isolate good targets just like the MXT.

You can not go wrong with the M6 detector over all.

Take Care & HH,
Bill G

Thanks for the input! I don't get to hunt much (1-4hr a month) but I think a more versatile detector like the m6 would be good for me. My prizmIV I will keep for a backup and to let friends use while I hunt their yard.

I think the m-6 will do good, it is basically turn on and go detector, it reminds me of the IDX Pro series, and I think it was made to replace the pro series. Like the pro, if a target locks on solid, the machine is pretty sure of the target, if you get jumpin numbers and no solid lock, chances are it will be junk. I've heard it was good on coins and jewelry. Some have reported it lacks depth, but with the right coil, (try a 6X10 DD) you should get decent depth, now it ain't gonna get the depth of an mxt, xlt or dfx, in every situation, but then again the price tags a little lighter LOL !!
