Default MXT coils, which one should I get?

I just bought a Whites MXT detector and knew that I could get the Super 12 coil for $49.95 with the purchase. When the detector arrived today at the local dealer it had a certificate that appears to say that I can get one of several coils for that price. Listed are the Super 12, Eclipse Shooter DD 4X6, the Eclipse 5.3", the Eclipse 6X10 DD, or the Eclipse 8X14 DD coil.

Now to the quandry: I spend about 1/2 my time relic hunting and the other half of my detecting time coin hunting. The ground around here does not suffer to badly with mineralization but most coin shooting sights are trashy (aren't they all anymore?). probably 15% of my coin hunting time is spent at old house sites that are less trashy but have a lot of the usual iron stuff in the ground (nuts, bolts, nails, etc). If I choose to go with a DD coil is there an advantage going with the 6X10 over the 4X6 or would the 8X14 be better? It's a darn hard decision to make not to have ever had the machine in the field (yes, it's raining today, naturally) to see how the normal coil does, although I have read a lot of reports that it is very noisy.

And the question: Which coil will suit my needs more for my types of hunting? I know that this may be swayed by your normal use for a metal detector but still I need some input so that I can make the right decision. I'll probably buy another coil or coils later but this needs to be done now to get the special price.

Thanks a lot guys and girls!
Ken

Ken

I have an MXT with the factory 9.5 coil. I like it a lot as is, however I've been thinking on getting the 5.3 or the 4x6 coil for better maneuverability in overgrown brush. Hoping it won't get caught in the branches and all since it's smaller. Another possible consideration. Also it's reported to be better at sorting through junk a slight bit better. I haven't commited to either yet, but that's the way I'm leaning.

Thanks
Leo
