Question Trouble with White's Eagle II SL 90

I was talking to my cousin tonight on the phone and he was telling me that his White's metal detector is acting up on him. He purchased the machine back around 1990 and he used it frequently during that time. The machine he owns is a White's Eagle II SL 90 metal detector. He mentioned during an electrical storm his machine somehow got damaged... anyone know of something like this happening when a machine is out of the elements?? He has it where the machine will turn on and the display works. He has no audio coming from the machine and also mentioned that the number that White's gives for the metal it is detecting will "jump" around. I think he said he was testing a penny with it and it wouldn't hold the same number value. Any of you older White's users know anything concerning this model and what could possibly be causing it to malfunction? I told him I would post this in the forums and see what replies I could get back. I also mentioned that he should send it off to White's to get serviced. Being that he is not working now, he is afraid it would be too costly to get White's to look at it. Does White's still service their older model metal detectors?

I did mention to him that the machine may have a default factory setting that he can reset. He is not sure how to go about doing this, so if anyone knows of this particular model and knows if there is an original default factory setting that can be set back to, please let me know how to go about resetting it. Thanks!

Hey FLD, I believe he can send it to white and get an estimate, for what it would cost to fix. That way if it too much the only thing he would have to pay is postage.
