Hi Will,
As far as your question in regards to the Classic ID depth VS the MXT or XLT they both blow away the ID in stock configuration. They both have Gain and Sensitivity Boosts that the Classic doesn't have and they also have Auto Ground Balance and tracking.Your talking about apples and oranges differences. The MXT is a 2 filter detector and can achieve depth at slow sweep speeds, i have an XLT and it's a 4 filter detector and needs to be swept to at least a moderate speed to achieve depth. The Classic ID is a 2 filter detector and has preset GB with a too loud Threshold in all metal but is fairly accurate in Target at it's full detection depth. So to sum it up in stock form it's no contest. The good news is the Classic ID can be modified By Mr Bill at Surfscanners and they advertise a boost circuit that increases depth by about 2"to2.5" and adds an adjustable threshold and an adjustable GB knob so while in all metal mode you can Ground Balance and it carries over into a smoother deeper disc mode.I just got a used IDX pro and next week it's going to Mr Bill and when i get it back i'll give my opinion on the benefits. I've read enough posts on the Classics and Pro to know the mods work and it's a lot cheaper than an XLT or MXT. There are many other differences but if talking just about depth a modded Classic should be very respectable. HH Bill |

Bill that was one great post very informative and well put togther. thank you for taking the time to respond to my question. I imagin I will try the modifaction later after the 2 year warranty runs out. I have use to have a XLT and never reallt felt that I was getting max depth out of the machine. I moslty ran the cusyome program Molta. Lots of the time the depth readout was off while in this program on more than one occasion. I found a ton of stuff though using the Molta program. I tried the pre set relic program with a few advance adjustments and this seemed to work in depth much better but with the added side affect of more trash lots more. I want buy a minelab exploer and check it out but that will be awhile before I do this. Again Thanks for the post
Thanks Will |

Thanks Will,
I think the main purpose of the ID series is not be the deepest but to give stable target id and excellent recovery speed when hunting in multiple target and trashy areas and also simplicity.I have a zinc penny buried about a yr now at 5" and the Pro hits it with a 5.3 Black Max coil about 2" above ground with sense about 80% and disc at ring setting.I'm Good Luck Bill |
