Hi Nighthunter,
What are you hoping to accomplish with the 800 coil and what other coil or coils do you have? Are you looking for depth or target separation? I have used a few different coils on the XLT and would be glad to add an opinion with a little info on expected results. HH Bill |

Didn't know you already bought the 800 Precision Scan and my take is you never have enough coils for differing hunting conditions. I use the 950 coil almost exclusively for wide open cruising areas without a lot of modern trash or numerous good targets where target separation is really needed and if area is large i'd opt for the 800 coil and continue cruising. I feel the depth loss is about 1 1/2" on the 800 coil over the 950 in good ground. Since you like to hunt defunct houses again i feel the 950 coil is overwhelmed close to the structures and would opt for the 800 coil as a quick scan tool around the foundation and for finding areas of concentrated targets or debris fields and do a concentrated search with the 5.3 coil which gets comparable or better depth in that environment due to less target masking. The 5.3 coil is my favorite coil for almost every type hunting except cruising with the XLT. Just my opinion . HH Bill

I didn't know I bought it until yesterday (successful bidder on Ebay). Did I pay too much? |

It's average price for a used $90 coil ,and it all depends on if it works or not. I usually buy used from dealers or other known classified forums and only use E bay when just can't find what i want thru other means. As soon as you get it make sure it air balances and ground balances properly and give it a little shake to if something is loose inside the coil not a hard shake . If it checks out ok you got a good deal. HH Bill

Hi Fellow TH'ers
I used the XLT for two years and bought several coils, one of which was the Bluemax 900. I was able to locate a half dollar sized flat button at 12+ inches. If you would like a picture help me figure out how to post a picture on this site as I am use to having a search button not just a list url. I may be old but I can be trained! LOL Anyway, the Bluemax coils seem to give a better depth ability. I also located my only goil coin to date, a 1854 US $1 in EXF+. If you want to see a picture of it you can find it listed at the Whites metal detecting website in the June 2002 user's finds location. It was a great find. I also bought my Bluemax at E-bay and have not had any problems with bad coils. I hope this trend stays with me as I moved up to the DFX and would like additional coils. I think the $46.00 you paid is about average on E-bay and wish you all the luck at locating super finds. Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to All. Dave Mork and Family THing4CSA PS: Remember; Don't leave it in the ground! |
