My question is why do you think it's a depth issue, perhaps it's target masking, or using the wrong coil or being in the wrong place. I don't have and never used an MXT but have used many Whites and other detectors and wonder why the depth issue comes into play. I don't feel you need more depth but a different approach.Silver coins don't magically appear at 12" and most are found at 2" to 8" and some deeper .Are you hunting trashy parks with lots of canslaw or pulltabs ? Also realize that sensitivity levels will affect masking. Perhaps if you add more info as to coil choice and settings ,along with hunting conditions may help the MXT users or others to help you out. I hunt with a standard coil. I hunt in relic mode. I don't hunt really trashy areas. While on a club hunt one member found a barber quarter at about 6 inches using a Minelab. Some of us (me included) with Whites went over the open hole and still couldn't detect it.

Just wondering if the MXT was encountering any instability problems like a jumpy screen or threshold variance. I have hunted areas that a dime would not register on the ground surface with a factory default setting on a DFX with a 950 coil and actually had to detune sensivity levels to attain stability. Since you mentioned all the other detectors couldn,t hit on the quarter i would lean towards a high ground mineralization first or EMI problems second and perhaps the Minelab worked better in those conditions.May need to use a "DD" or smaller concentric at some sites. Just a thought. HH Bill

I purchased a new excaliber coil this week because i had the same issue with depth and the MXT, this coil is made to hunt in relic mode so I went to a park where I hve hunted twice before, one spot in particular I have found quite a bit of change and thought it hunted out, with the new coil I picked up a small St Jude medal, and a key ring and several more coins, in short I am impressed, this is a very new park with alot of slag and the MXT is even better with the new coil. I am going to try the 5" for real trashy areas, hope this helps , Curt
