Default understanding KHZ

I have a MXT and I know it runs at 14 KHZ, I am interested in a DFX and I know that it runs at 3KHZ and how much difference is the depth of these two frequencies and is a multi freq detector a must have for serious detectorist??? I really like the MXT and am finding a lot of coins but am unsure just how inportant more freq's would be and if it would be better because I seem to be hitting about 9" max...... HELP

Default my Opinion

first thing first your MXT is a great MD. you may just need to tweak your settings a little for added depth. (preamp gain) or buy a DD coil. that may do the trick . as for buying a DFX its not so much the added depth of the detector. but what the multi freq can do . Gold, nickel, and other lower conductive metals respond more reliably at higher freq . Copper . silver. and other higher conducting alloys respond more reliably at lower freq. the info is gathered by the processor and relayed to you . giveing you a better ID as to what is in the ground . also if your with your buddy and he has a standard detector it will be opperating around 6 khz. so by being able to switch freq you are able to detect next to each other without interference . that being said .. its really up to you . if you got the money for a DFX . use both .. keep the MXT for a backup.

i hope that helps if you need any more in depth info on the DFX or multi freq just ask . ~James

Default thanks

I was wondering, what kind of depth are you getting with the DFX? I have bought the excelerator 12.5 Coil and this has helped with a little more depth but was wondering at 3KHZ how deep are you going?

Default info

10" or so depending on soil . but the DFX does 3 khz or 15 khz or both at the same time

The DFX actually runs at 16 different frequecies with 3 and 15 being the more dominant to hit finds on. The processor takes the information from the target response and gives you an audio and visual output . You can set the detector for 3 , 15 or multi. The detector is actually transmitting one frequency coupled to the others through harmonics. Essentially the DFX can act like a MXT at the 15 Khz setting but with more options. The DFX is an upgrade but you have to be willing to take some time understanding the controls and the responses it gives you.

Default Dfx

Thank you, I think I will stay with the MXT I am just learning quite a bit about it and I think it is a great detector, tell me if I am wrong but from what I gather the KHZ does affect depth but it seems it may be the sensitivity that is affected most, the lower the KHZ the less it picks up small shallow targets???

I have a DFX and at 3khz it find small and large silver coins at same depth.
