I love hunting with tone ID detectors at places like schools, parks etc., and the XLT will perform a symphony in high trash areas and my prefered mode when coin hunting a new site with a lot of targets or an old site where i may not know how long my welcome will last.
Once the preferred target responses are at a minimum and if i plan on digging almost everything within the accepted discrimination then tone may be a nuisance. The single tone also seems easier to hear the deeper signals . Tone ID has it's place and is very telling once you begin to understand the cacophony. HH Bill |

Tone ID is a big "off". Too much noise drives me crazy. I use the background noise at 200. Even at a low level it seems like my hearing is a little "funny" afterwards for a few minutes. Everything sounds like I'm listening through a seashell.
The VCO is a must even though I haven't found my sweet spot on the coil and I end up nicking some coins when I dig. ![]()
