Default DD coil for White's XLT

Hi Everyone. Does anyone know if there is any DD or eliptical style coils that will work on the XLT other than their 4x6 Blue Max. I like the idea of using a DD coil but I feel the 4x6 is a very small footprint compared to the newer coils for the DFX line. I was hoping to use something more like the 5x10 size. It's hard to believe that as popular as the XLT was and is that they didn't make more coils available for it. Thanks, PABill

Thumbs down Hi PABILL

I just went through all my back issues of Whites catalogs and could not come up with anything bigger than a 4x6 DD for the XLT

Probably not the best answer but as an opinion i feel it isn't as important an option due to the 4 filter design which helps penetrate through the mineralization and the need for a moderate to swift sweep speed to achieve max depth may cause lost targets due to the narrow detection width of the DD coils.

Have used the 4"x6" shooter on an XLT and found at a slower sweep it looses depth very quickly whereas the 5.3 or even the 350 will still get decent depth at slower sweeps. I wonder if the XLT design isn't as compatible to the DD Coils.

Unfortunately we'll probably never know how good they would have worked because Whites seems to have given up on the 6.59khz lineup. One thing for sure, the XLT is a proven winner with the coils it has available. HH Bill

Default Thanks

Thanks for the info. I agree I have checked and the only size I can find is the 4x6. I didn't know if there was any alternate manufacturers that may make them. I appreciate your feedback on the loss of depth that you seemed to find using the DD coils. I guess I will look to go with something like the 3.5. I do like the detection fields that the DD coils have over the cone shape field but I guess there is nothing we can do about that at this time. I guess I am a bit spoiled since I use a Bigfoot coil in many areas. Saves alot of time! I wish White's would have come out with some other sizes that were made for the XLT. I would think they would want to enhance thier line since the XLT is still in production and was a great seller for them. I will also look to add something like the 3.5 for trashy areas and around playground equipment. Thanks again and Happy Hunting, PABill

Bill if you haven't tried the 5.3 coil which is about 6.5" in diameter vs the 350 coil which is 4.5" in diameter i would highly recommend the 5.3 Black Max coil over the 350 Snooper.

The 5.3 gets great depth and target separation is very good and is perhaps the most versatile coil available for the XLT.The 350 Snooper is just too small and probably won't produce nearly as much as the 5.3 overall . I mostly use the 350 Snooper on a modified IDX Pro around old foundations, trees, walls and heavily trashed areas that will occasionally pick a good target out of the muck.

Wouldn't it be nice if Whites would come out with a detector similar to the Minelab X Terra's where you could utilize the 6.59khz coils and the 14khz coils as separate modes and then have a dual mode for the salt beaches.

Just a thought. HH Bill

Default 5.3 Blackmax

Bill, Thanks for the info. I have not tried the 5.3 but look forward to it. The 350 did seem a little small for me and would only have very specific applications. The 5.3 is probably going to get alot more use. I see alot of threads on the chats about people using the 5.3 and they seem to prefer it over all of their other coils. I will have to pick one up. Thanks again for the info. PABill
