Probably the worst thing to do at this time is attempting to make a custom program. The standard coin program would eliminate many of the troublesome pulltabs however with a large coil and a high discrimination program you could glance over many good targets due to target Masking.
Many will say to learn your machine before going to a smaller coil but i'm thinking many folks would benefit by using a smaller coil and learn Tone ID at trashy sites and not make too many changes to programs with little understanding as to the results of those changes. The DFX as with the XLT can result in deeper finds by simply opening up the discrimination such using the coin and jewelry and my favorite the Relic program rather than the Coin program with perhaps a little added AC Sensitivity but keep the detector stable. Nothing wrong with trying different settings as thats the only way to learn but is better to go slow and attempt only a few changes at a time and can always fall back on the factory default settings. Good luck. HH Bill |

go to Metal Detecting Forums, Auctions + More - Treasure Quest and look at his vid norminalizaion table. You will get a better idea as to where targets fall. If you are hunting parks you WILL need a small park to be very effective. Also, you will be amazed how tamed the DFX will become. Notice the preset programs have 0 - 7 disc out... you need to ACCEPT those numbers because chains fall in that target range. If you are getting a lot of the same type pull tab numbers disc THAT number out. Dont use the learn or you will disc out a series of about 5 vdi numbers... like 21,22,23,24 and 25. If you hunt with 15 kHz VDI normilazation set OFF you have a better spread for the pull tabs, not to mention 15 kHz is a little better on EMI. The main thing is to ensure the DFX is stable when air balanced waist high. If you dont have Jeff Fosters book "digging deeper" its a MUST have... lots of info that anyone can use. Well there is my 2 cents worth... hope it helps.
