Just about as much power as the Excellent MXT with a straight up coinshooters mentality. You won't be dissapointed with one. Let me know If I can help you with your purchase.

Hi Dick,
I was overloaded with 5 and 6khz detectors and wanted a higher frequency detector to better cover the lower conductive targets and was a bit hesitant deciding on the M6 and traded for one about 4 months ago and love the thing. It's got most of what i wanted on the Classic IDX Pro and more with the exception of the All Metal ID which is great on the Classics. The tracking circuit is amazing how it cancels out bad ground and mineralized rocks so quickly and has ability to lock the best setting. For some reason the 7 tone id just clicked with me and along with using small coils, "0" disc and the quick recovery speed i'm eager to rehunt the older trashy sites that lost my interest. It ain't perfect but a real nice detector in my opinion. Dick,
I love mine. I have been using it with the standard coil it came with and have done very well in some pretty trashy areas. I just received the 4X6 coil today so can't wait to get back and re-search some of these areas. It is so simple to operate it's almost impossible to set it up wrong. I see lots of posts about some of the more expensive machines and people having lots of questions about setting them up. This machine is easy so you spend your time hunting and not fidling with controls. I also am hearing that this machine does about as good as the MXT. If I am not mistaken the electronics for the M6 is based on the MXT circuitry with simpler controls. I love the 7 tone feature because you don't have to watch the LCD display you can just search by sound. Those high tones get your attention and that's usually the good stuff. I find the pinpointing feature to be right on and the depth indication is as well. I love going behind other treasure hunters. The last time I found several indian head pennies 7" deep they missed. The ground tracking system is easy to set up or change, just a flick of the switch. I have never had to balance the machine it seems to be automatic. Ground conditions here are not problematic. I normally use the auto trac feature. It does have a beach mode which should help in severe bad ground conditions. I don't think you will be disappointed. Steve |

Thanks for the replies, you guys, on the M6.
Another question: I am more of an old coins hunter than for modern clad and jewelry, and while in the "boonies" I like to get some relics, too. How would you classify the M6 in respect to just casual Relic Hunting?; keeping in mind I'm just a "once in awhile" relic hunter and won't be digging every signal and burrowing to China for the finds. Thanks

Hi Dick,
I think you know my position on the M6 quite well. I feel the M6 would serve you well in the type of hunting you do. It would also serve you well on your hunts on the beaches along the eastern coast. I has done a good job of getting me some nice silver coins since I got it along with clad and jewlery. As for relic hunting, as sensitive as this machine is on iron, brass and cilver I can't imagine it not being a good relics machine. Has almost all the features you are used to other then notch. Great tracking system, very good accuracy at pinpointing, pretty solid VDI numbers and the different tone modes give the options of tones. Battery life on this machine is a real plus also. Put all that with an endless selection of coils from 4" up and concentric to DD you can't go wrong. Keep us adviced on what you end up doing. |

Really not much more that I can add that hasn't already been stated by the other posters regarding the M6.
I've just returned to the hobby, and, detectors sure have changes since the '70s. I bought a Prizm V back in early December and had a blast with it. I wanted to upgrade so I looked at the MXT and the DFX. After researching the two and visiting my local dealer I decided on the M6...mainly for it's simplicity. My main interests are coin and jewelry hunting at beach and parks. I took the M6 to the beach the other day at it worked well. I'm looking forward to many more hunting trips with my M6. Best, Brian

Hi Dick I also own an m6 I purchased on 4-20-06 and since I've found 28 silver coins many buffalo's 5 rings and many other trinkets my deepest digs were 10 + inches deep and a silver half @ 13" . you also will not miss silver, copper or lead with this machine and gold and nickels will read the same on mine around 18 vdi pull tabs are always in the 20's so check and dig all lower signals. it is also a quarter magnet, but I believe this is true of most detectors. goodluck! If I can be of any help just ask thanks Don

Ive had my M6 for about 9 months now. And use mine for Civil War relic hunting. My hunting partner use's the high end explorer II and my machine that cost half as much as his finds just as much. On the bullets some of the tones you have to get used too, just a high pitch squak over each way normaly indicates a good bullet tone, not the steady tone like a coin. Buttons and other campfire finds give normal tone for what there made of. The only feature I dont like is the "overload" signal, a can will give it to you very easily.

Nice to hear of your success hunting Civil War Relics. Do you use tone id
hunting relics or just single tone and if yes have you found any difference in the ability to hear the deeper signals using Tone ID. Most of my finds are within the top 6" to 7" and use tone id almost exclusively due to the heavy trash at most of my sites and feel the single tone may provide a little better audio on the deeper targets but tone id is still audible throughout the depth range. Any thoughts on this Weapon USMC or anyone? I'd also be curious as to the finds rate between the M6 and MXT in a side by side relic hunt just to see how much fringe sensitivity was cut from the M6.
