Modern dimes will pick up as pennies sometimes because they are about the same size and are full of copper. Nickles wil pick up in the nickle range there abouts depending on how deep and how long it's been in the ground. Freshly dropped coins will bounce the machine around at times. Check you sensetivity and practice alot.

Thanks all I have been waiting for the weekend folks to head out so I can hit the beach here (Lake Superior) I don't think that I will find a darn thing but it will be worth a shot .

I leave disc set on the factory setting Nail and foil/thin ring.

Hey Drewan, welcome to TQ, as my hunting buddy Buster said I also have the Prizm III, I find a lot of good stuff with it both on the beach & dirt diggin, I disc out nails & foil, too much of that on the beaches here, dimes & pennies will often read as the opposite on the md, don't know why, if it says quarter, it has ALWAYS been quarter, nickels are a different story, they are the hardest to find & pull tabs will read as a nickel, when I'm in the tot lots & come across the top of a pencil, the metal part that holds the eraser, it will also read as nickel, I found a gold plated ring at the beach & it read strictly as a pull tab so I did every signal, good luck with the Prizm III, stick with it, it will find what you're looking for.

Welcome to TQ!..I got a Prizm 2 A few months back and got to the point of finding lots of coins. In older places I put disc. on iron and foil. At places where I know there are lots of coins AND junk I disc. out 5c and pull tabs. I have found no rings and about 15 Nickles. One silver quarter so far. I put the sens. up until the sound starts chirping then back it off a step. I have found pennies at 6-7". Swing slow and when you hear it pop in both directions you've got something good. Nickles and tabs read alike, aluminum siding reads pennies and clad dimes read pennies. Quarters always 25 and 50c is a half and all othe big stuff. If you disc. the sound will not pop but be sort of scratchy. Unless a coin is on edge. they scratch too sometimes. It depends on how long the coin has been in the ground. That 1937 quarter was down 5" and was nice and loud so it really rang because it was buried so long. Have fun with it. Each day is not the same hunting but each day gets better and you get faster.
