Default XLT Problems

Hello,

I just bought a used Spectrum XLT. Originally, it had a bad screen (backlight trouble), and I had that screen replaced - and it looks great - but I think there is something else going on.

Whenever I use the backlight, the detector becomes unstable (lots of false signals, even in air). It is less unstable at 2 than 6, but nonetheless, it is not working properly - or is this actually normal? The effect would be similar to if you detached the coil while it was on - just not nearly as bad. Kinda smacks of electrical interference. Is it possible the new screen was put in wrong? Is there more than one way to put it in?

I do go out in the evening a lot, so the backlight is helpful.

It almost seems to me like there is a loose connection somewhere, but I would have no luck finding it. It seems to get worse when you jiggle the detector (it reads false signals). That seems to happen even when the light is off.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chris...

Default Seems to be a machine problem

if your signal wiggles when you jiggle or jiggles when you wiggle... the problem is in the machine. there should be no differance and your machine should not read any thing at all if your shaking the coil in the air. if you hear it when you shake it, there is a machine problem. happy hunting

Default ok, taking it in

Yeah, there is definitely something wrong - I thought the battery might be moving so I tried the cardboard trick - no dice. I cleaned the contacts, no dice. Very, very strange. If I turn the AC sensitivity down to 50 or lower (when the light is on), the problem goes away - so it is picking up interference internally somewhere.

I have a guarantee on it, so I am going to take it in tomorrow.

Thanks!
