Hello JC,
Thanks for the advice. Yes, i was planning on using the default modes to start with. I am sure it will take me some time to learn them. I am just excited to get started in this hobby, still have to wait till spring anyways. Want to learn as much as i can etc. Ali from Kellyco was nice enough to print me out a copy of the manual and is on the way in the mail. Now i am making a list of everything else i will need. Belt, pouches, digging tools etc. Also want to buy the metal thing to put on the bottom of the XLT so i can lay it on the ground while digging, without scratching it. So by the time i order the XLT, it will be the last thing i will need. Figure i can buy all the other stuff first. I'm afraid if i buy the XLT first, i will probably hang it on the wall and stare at it all winter!

I am moving on December 28th. to Minnesota, so most of my finances will be for that and to get things going there first. But after i start working, i will be able to start saving more money towards my XLT. Only have $100 put away so far, but i have all winter yet. Now i just need to think of a name for my new best friend when it arrives lol! Does it show i am too excited? HA HA. Thanks JC.

There is always some time involved just getting used to what the machine is telling you and you don't need to be worrying about what the settings are at that point. Just some advice that I learned the hard way. I look forward to seeing some of your finds and if you have more questions just holler. Happpy Holidays. JC:santa2:

Thumbs up Xlt

I agree with Jc, use to standard programs first until you gain experience with it. The custom programs can mess you up at first.
I was one of the first buyers of the XLT and have loved it ever since, even had Jimmy Sierra fix it once. I do not know about the newer one's as i have not been out of detecting for awhile.
But You won't be sorry with it. Great Machine!

I must have missed this post a few weeks back...I use the set up that Kevin Mulrooney talked about in his book for hunting the beach....I had gotten the his book when I lived up in Dover Delaware few years back...I will tell you this..It is mostly the program that I use when I am on the beach detecting in the sand...I have found lots of coins and a few rings to boot..It is a good book to have for sure...Money well spent on this one..I have also used Dick Stout's book also with good results...I would recommend these books to any one that has an XLT for sure,....Buster....
