Wow, excelant, and thanks for the offer! I was just looking around the net and found a deal on the DFX. if i buy one at a local dealer, I can get over $500 in accessories free (well I ahve to pay $11 shipping). Its a really nice acc. package, and if I can get my dealer to go for it, them I may do the DFX instead of the XLT. For some reason, they dont have the deal on the XLT but do for the DFX and MTX. Weird. Anyway, even if I end up with the DFX, it is very close to the XLT except for some other bells and whistles, so I should still be good and I may still ask for some help from you guys. Thanks again...

I enjoy hunting very trashy sites and the F2 is a fun grab and go detector especially with the 4" coil and love the clear 4 tone id.

Your reference to prospecting is a tough call and would think the MXT ,X Terra 70 or Tesoro Lobo Super Traq would be 3 good choices for your general use also. I have an Eagle Spectrum and newer XLT and feel they are about the best overall detectors i've used so far but for prospecting i'll let others decide HH Bill
Thanks Bill. Ill look at the F2 and see if it would be good for my sister to use while walking and hunting around. She has never detected either, so something easy would be good for her.

Default I am an XLT user

Given all that has been said and taking into consideration your location and planned uses. I believe the XLT will perform wonderfully for you. The DFX would have a steep learning curve that would probably end up discouraging you, in my opinion of course. Might I suggest that you either go to the whites forum at The White's Metal Detecting Forum At TreasureNet - Index sorry moderators. There are alot of California area users there, and to me it seems alot of them use an MXT which is what my gut is telling me you may be better off with. In terms of brand, whites, fisher minelab etc you will get as many opinions as well you know...on which is best. What is boils down to though, if you are really leaning toward the XLT and get talked into an ACE 250 and get discouraged or have a bad experience you will always think you should have gotten the XLT. Go with what you can afford and want, spend time reading your manual, practice practice practice, read your manual, practice more and enjoy your hobby.

Hi Frank and welcome to TQ. I can't really help, it's been years since I had a Whites and I'm not too up on them. Good luck on whichever you choose!

Wll, as it turns out, I talked to a few people here and one of the techs at Whites and it looks like Im going to go with the MXT. Since I live smack in the middle of gold country, I dont think that the XLT is the right machine for me. as you too have mentioned. Thanks for the comments...

Thanks Allen. Looks like I'm going to most likely get the the Whites MXT, though I looked hard at the Xterra 70, which I think is a very nice unit. As a matter of fact, my fishing buddy is talking about getting the Xterra 70 himself. It actually has a couple of features I like that the Whites doesn't have.
