Hi guys.
I'm new to these forums. I found a bottle last summer on the beach in about 3 feet of water at low tide among a pile of rocks which resembles ballast from what may have been a ship at one time. It was lodged between two of these rocks, and on the bottom reads "J.L. & C.L.C" and below that is "1754". Can anyone i.d. it? Especially the number: could this be the date, or just some sort of identification number? |

Thanks, Rip.
If you're absolutely sure, that will be both a good thing and a bad thing. A good thing because I may not have found the wreck I've been looking for, therefore I won't waste time at that site next summer and keep searching in the general vacinity. A bad thing because I thought for sure I had found my sunken pirate ship that was set ablaze and sank in 1758 by a group of angry Indians, killing all the pirates on board. Since they recycled bottles back then like we do now, it only made sense that if the bottle was made in 1754 and my ship sank in 1758, then this must be the site. There was also an old oak barrel sticking up about a foot out of the sand, but it was in bad shape with nothing in it. I did find a few bones, broken bottles of various shapes, sizes and colors, a sharpening stone, and some kind of hook, though. A funny story about the bones: I took them to the police station, thinking it would be the right thing to do, you know. The officer took one look, and said: "Whoever it was has been dead for a very long time. We're not going to worry about it." and proceeded to throw the bones in the garbage. Me, not wanting to make a fuss and risking him asking me questions as to where I found them, thus blowing my ship's cover and having troves of looters combing the site, just laughed with him and I left. |

Wow sounds like a great spot ! I may be wrong as i am no expert ! I would cheak pappys site,i was going to post the same site but couldent find it(Thanks Pappy ! ) Also i'm curious what type of bones did you find ? what other glass etc.did you find ? I think that even if the bottle isent from the right time period that dosent mean you havent got an old site there. Good luck HH !

The bones looked like they could have been human, or maybe even parts of a deer or moose (there was no skull, just parts of a leg bone). The bottles looked like little medicine bottles of sorts (some pink, blue, green, clear).
It's definitely a site, but not necessarily the site I've been after for several years. I'm after a specific pirate ship. Two of them, in fact; this one and it's sister ship that was supposedly sunk later during the same night to the south-east of the first one. |
