Default First Silver Coin

The ground finally thawed!

After a disappointing day at my first park on Sunday (I probably shouldn't have hunted the picnic grounds... way too much trash) I decided to scan my front yard today. So far I've found nothing but clad on my property - coinwise, anyway. Closest I came was a 1966 quarter. This made sense, as my house was built in the early 1970's. My hopes of silver coinage certainly didn't lie here... I was mainly sweeping the lawn to get my 'fix'.

So 10 minutes later the Ace250 hits a solid DIME DIME DIME signal. I dig a plug, and scan it - the coin's in the plug, not the hole. I turn the plug over, and I see the glimmer of shining SILVER! Let me tell you, it's soooo different from pulling up dirty dimes and quarters. Silver keeps it's luster despite being in the ground for decades.

I can tell it's a dime. I just missed the coin with my digger so I neatly bisected the ground right at the edge of the coin and can see the dime from the side. It's bright and shiny and the ridges of the dime don't have a trace of copper in them. My first silver is a Roosevelt dime! Excited, I extract it...

No Roosevelt here. That's Mercury, god of the sun. You have no idea how totally psyched I was! Even though my house is young, the coin predates it by 30+ years. Just goes to show, any spot's a good spot.

Now I can't wait to get out to that park again...
