Smile My first silver dollar (Morgan).

Hello group. I have not posted here for probably a few years now. Recently I've taken up the hobby again, as time permits. I've been out a few times over the last few weeks, without any finds of mention. Today, after all the tasks of the day were over, right after my over-due haircut, I went across the road and searched a very well hunted (I've been told) park. There is new road construction there, with some areas carved out several feet down, leaving a clay deck that seemed to contain very few hits at any discrimination level. So, after a bit I concentrated on a few areas where they had staged the leveling from grass level to floor level with a periodic shelf that ranged from about 1 to 4 feet wide and was about half a foot below grass level, depending on the immediate terrain. I used little discrimination, because the bad hits were not very numerous. After about 1-1/2 hours I'd found nothing but a few memorial pennies and some junk. As the sun was getting low, I had a loud hit. Because time was short, I didn't check where the discrimination cut-off was, I just dug in to see what it might be. Because of the loud hit and large sized of the signal, I figured it was a crushed can or jar lid, so I dug down about 6 inches, hit my target with the digging tool, and pried out my first ever silver dollar. I took a look at what I had, ran back to my car for my cell phone, and called a friend who also is into the hobby. I was very excited. So, I've finally found a Morgan, and (aside from the face scratch from prying it out of the ground) it's in very good shape. Hardly any wear at all. Attached are the obverse/reverse photos.

Look real close at that mint mark and make sure it's not the "O" over "CC" variety. It's worth more if it's the RPM.

Too bad about the scratch. I've yet to dig a dollar coin detecting, but found a 1922 Peace dollar when I was 8 years old (40 years ago). We were playing army....and I jumped into a deep naturally eroded ditch...and there it was sticking out of the side of the ditch. I'd never seen a coin that big before....and didn't even know what it was. I took it home and my Dad knew....and confiscated it for safekeeping. He gave it to me several years later.
