Default First Silver of the Year

Greetings,

Although I have been following this forum for the last 6 months, this is one of my first posts. After escaping the bitter cold and deep snow of Vermont for a week, I was able to do some digging here in my home state of Massachusetts. I have been detecting off and on since I was 15, so about 5 years. I have only found a handful of silver quarters and dimes in the past, so when I popped my most recent silver out of the ground I was a happy camper to say the least. I had decided to take a hike along one of the local rivers near my house. For about an hour I got only a few pull tabs and no clad at all. This seemed strange. I figured that nobody had been there recently. My next find confirmed my beliefs. I got a solid coin signal on my Fisher CZ-5 and I dug down about 2 inches. Up came what I thought was a religious medallion. It had a hole on top and what looked like a cross on the back. I did not dare rub any of the dirt off, and instead waited until I got home to soak it. Needless to say, I saw a date of 1747 on it. Around the outer rim it said Hispan(ium?) ~ REX 1747 and on the obverse, Ferdinandus VI ~D~ I nearly died. This was my oldest coin by well over 180 years. I knew that my area was old, back to the 1700's, but never saw any evidence of it. I promise to post pictures once I get back to school and my digital camera.
